Merit Prize: Roni Gendler, Austin, Texas
Nikon Coolpix S-Series Camera and a Bogen National Geographic Photo Package
Roni Gendler, who was traveling in Eastern Europe with her mother, snapped this photograph when they were visiting the Buda Castle in Budapest. "We were waiting in the extremely long line to enter," she says. "I was surveying my surroundings when I saw a mime pacing up and down talking on a cell phone. I knew I had my winning shot when he sat down and his hat was on the opposite side from him. It was one of those moments when all the photographic elements combine to form a beautiful picture." Gendler graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2005 and works at the Jewish Community Association of Austin. (Canon EOS 20D digital camera, 70-200mm zoom lens) Bogen Prize Package includes National Geographic Tundra Monopod, National Geographic Tundra Tripod with three-way head, and Earth Explorer Medium Shoulder Bag.
This year's 18th annual photo contest received nearly 15,000 entries, up from some 10,000 last year. Start polishing your skills early with one of Traveler's photo seminars and look for the announcement of our next contest in May 2007.
