NGTS Specials on NBC receive 9 Emmy nominations, the EXPLORER series on TBS
secures 8 nominations.

National Geographic Television (NGT, Inc.) has been nominated for a total of 17 Emmys for both the
News & Documentary, and Primetime Emmy Awards. NGTs popular adventure magazine series
National Geographic EXPLORER, seen weekly on TBS Superstation, has been nominated for seven
News and Documentary Emmys, and one Primetime Emmy Award. For the second year in a row,
EXPLORER received more Emmy nominations than any other basic cable series.
National Geographic Televisions Specials on NBC received seven News and Documentary
Emmy Award nominations. The News and Documentary Awards will be presented on September 9
at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.
NGT also picked up three Primetime Emmy nominations for Specials on NBC, and
EXPLORERs airing on TBS Superstation during the 1997 calendar year.
As announced last month, National Geographic Television is a recipient of the 1998
Governors Award, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences highest honor. NGT was chosen
for its consistent innovation and commitment to compelling, quality family programming. The
Governors Award will be presented during the Primetime Creative Arts Awards, on August 29th at
the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
