NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TELEVISION’S EXPLORER SERIES RECEIVES MORE NEWS AND DOCUMENTARY EMMY NOMINATIONS THAN ANY OTHER CABLE SERIES

NGT’S Specials on NBC receive 9 Emmy nominations, the EXPLORER series on TBS secures 8 nominations.

Washington, D.C., July 23, 1998

National Geographic Television (NGT, Inc.) has been nominated for a total of 17 Emmys for both the News & Documentary, and Primetime Emmy Awards. NGT’s popular adventure magazine series National Geographic EXPLORER, seen weekly on TBS Superstation, has been nominated for seven News and Documentary Emmys, and one Primetime Emmy Award. For the second year in a row, EXPLORER received more Emmy nominations than any other basic cable series.

National Geographic Television’s Specials on NBC received seven News and Documentary Emmy Award nominations. The News and Documentary Awards will be presented on September 9 at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.

NGT also picked up three Primetime Emmy nominations for Specials on NBC, and EXPLORER’s airing on TBS Superstation during the 1997 calendar year.

As announced last month, National Geographic Television is a recipient of the 1998 Governors Award, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences highest honor. NGT was chosen for its consistent innovation and commitment to compelling, quality family programming. The Governors Award will be presented during the Primetime Creative Arts Awards, on August 29th at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
