London, August 14, 1998
National Geographic Channel Europe has confirmed the appointment of Kirsten McConnell as director of international distribution and business development. The appointment is a promotion for McConnell, who has been British Sky Broadcastings international distribution and marketing manager since 1994, representing Sky News and various other channels.
McConnell will be responsible for securing new distribution outlets for the National Geographic Channel in western, central, and eastern Europe and Israel. She will also be looking at new business opportunities in each territory, such as localization of the channel.
Jerry Glover, National Geographic Channels managing director comments:
Kirsten is one of the best known and most respected channel distribution experts in Europe. She has already produced tremendous results in her work on National Geographic Channels conversion from NBC Europe, and we are very excited that she will now be involved with NGC directly.
Kirsten McConnell adds: This is a great opportunity for me. National Geographic is one of the worlds strongest brands, and the channel has great potential. In its first year NGC has grown from launch to over 25 million subscribers around the world and is being received enthusiastically by distributors and viewers alike. The next year will be tremendously exciting as the channel goes from strength to strength.
