        "transcript": "<p class=\"MsoNormal\">DESTINATION: South Africa, San People</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">SOUNDBITE:</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis is not really our land\u2026(SYNC) There\u2019s our land in the park\u2026(V/O) That\u2019s our land.\u201d</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Eighty-two year old Feke Kuiper and her sisters Kees and Katrine were born in the Kalahari in southwest Africa.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">They\u2019re Khomani San, part of a group of people who have been living in this region for perhaps thousands of years.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">And they want to go home.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">SOUNDBITE:</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhen we were consulted\u2026(SYNC)...we asked for our land back.\u201d</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">The sisters and their people were driven off their land after South Africa established the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in the 1930\u2019s.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Witdraai \u2013 their home \u2013 fell within its borders\u2026</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Some of their people were persecuted\u2026</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Others exterminated\u2026</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">The animals of the Kalahari flourished\u2026</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">The San did not.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">SOUNDBITE:</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cA mob burnt down our homes\u2026My father was already lying dead at Witdraai. Then we, the Bushmen, were scattered as we are now. Living apart.\u201d</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">In 2002 the Khomani San settled an historic land claim.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Now, after sixty years in exile, Feke, Kees and Katrine, are going home.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">SOUNDBITE:</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cNow we are coming home, we dance for joy as we walk.\u201d</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">SOUNDUP:</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cPolice station! This is Witdraai. My father had this land.\u201d</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">The sisters\u2019 return heralds the start of a new conservation movement \u2013 one that recognizes the rights of displaced people to have a say in how Africa\u2019s parks are run.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Huge conservation zones are in the works for southern Africa.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Six new mega parks known as \u2018Peace Parks\u2019 will cross national borders.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Already open, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park has merged the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park with a neighboring park in Botswana.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">At the same time, people like Feke and her sisters can finally go home.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Although their community still faces daunting challenges.</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">They will share their traditional knowledge with the next generation\u2026</p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">With the hope that they can help pull the San way of life back from the verge of extinction</p>",
