Chris 23>> was canoeing down the Zambezi River along the Zambia-Zimbabwe border, filming hippos:
-
It was getting a little scary. Hippos make these noises that kind of resonate through you; you feel the vibrations up through the canoe 12>>.

I turned just in time to see this huge hippo, mouth open, water spraying, charging right towards us.
-
...my companion, when he had slapped his lovely wooden paddle on the water, had splintered it, leaving basically a toothpick.

...my heart was pounding, my blood was racing, and the worst part was that I hadn’t got it on film. I didn’t have it in the can because I had put the camera away. I was glad to get to camp that night 30>>.
