Global Citizens Network has been in operation since 1992 with goals of creating a network of people who are committed to the shared values of peace, justice, tolerance, cross-cultural understanding and global cooperation, to the preservation of indigenous cultures, traditions, and ecologies; and to the enhancement of the quality of life around the world. To accomplish its goals, Global Citizens Network sends volunteers out to communities in other cultures where they immerse themselves in the culture and daily life of the community.

Volunteer teams consist of approximately 6-12 participants each year. In 2007 there were a total of 19 teams and they are anticipating even more in 2008. Each volunteer team is partnered with a local grassroots organization active in meeting local needs, thereby helping to create a worldwide network of people and organizations committed to addressing global issues.

In the words of one volunteer from the Navajo Nation program in Rockpoint, AZ, “Today will be filled with new experiences. We walked about ¼ mile to the work site. We spent the day taking off the roof. Bradley (8 years old) and Austin (7 years old) were very industrious and hardworking, climbing on top of the roof and pulling off tiles. What a great way for them to assert their independence. Later, off they went to explore the surroundings.”
