The towering peaks and secluded valleys of the Himalayan mountain range form a 1,500-mile-long (2,400-kilometer-long) barrier separating the lowlands of the Indian subcontinent from the high, dry Tibetan Plateau.
The Eastern Himalaya are rich with some of the world’s most diverse temperate forests and are home to many of the world’s rarest animals—tigers, clouded leopards, and red pandas.
