An estimated 24 volcanoes are erupting in the world at any given moment. Millions of people around the globe live in the uncertain and deadly shadows of the world’s approximately 1,550 active volcanoes. Yet, scientists are still learning about what makes a volcano erupt and struggle to predict exactly when these eruptions will occur. Obviously, more needs to be known.
