Artist Bio:
Mansour Seck is a long-time member of Baaba Maal's band Dande Lenon. As well as performing, touring and recording with Baaba Maal, Mansour Seck has been releasing his own work. Both Seck and Maal come from the same town in northern Senegal, Podor. However, Baaba Maal was born into the caste of fishermen. Mansour Seck was born into the caste of the griot, and this unique mixture has been fruitful for both men in terms of musical exploration.
Baaba Maal and Mansour Seck journeyed to research the rich cultural traditions of Hapulaar village life in Fouta Toro (Northern Senegal/Southern Mauritania) and beyond to Fouta Macina in Mali. In the early '80s, Maal won a scholarship to Beaux Arts in Paris. He sent for his old friend, Mansour Seck, and together they entertained and inspired the Hapulaar immigrant communities of France. The album Djaam Leeli is from this early time together.
At this point, Mansour Seck has proven himself a master musician in his own right. His work on the later albums of Yelayo and the two N'der Fouta Tooro releases showcase this work.
