Children in Mosul, Iraq, march in a parade during the spring festival of Nawruz, an ancient holiday that marks the vernal equinox and the first day of spring. Nawruz has its origins in ancient Persia and is celebrated today in many countries throughout the Middle East. The festival is often marked by a 13-day celebration, during which the participants feast on foods symbolic of the spring season.
