New Frontier: National Geographic Adventure iPad App – The Greatest Adventure Stories Retold

I had the privilege of working on the edit staff of National Geographic Adventure magazine for eight years. They were eight wonderful years full of big ideas, incredible challenges, and daring explorers, writers, and photographers—and that was just inside the office. When the magazine folded in December 2009, our team dispersed to find new adventures. Mine was to keep the brand going online.

People often ask me if the magazine will come back. It’s a bittersweet question.

With the launch of our new National Geographic Adventure iPad app, which features five iconic adventure stories told in this dynamic new medium, we have a bit of a homecoming—sans paper but in video, audio, and interactive graphics (including Gear Time Lines that will blow your mind). Slip alongside climber Alex Honnold‘s free soloing in Yosemite. Join polar explorer Will Steger‘s trans-Antarctic expedition. Get inside photographer Carston Peter‘s obsession with going inside volcanoes. And learn what ocean explorer Bob Ballard saw when he discovered the Titanic, which is having its anniversary this week.  It also features our Adventurers of the Year, our Extreme Photo of the Week gallery, and our blog.

Adventure has always been about new frontiers. Onward!
