A National Geographic writer and editor for more than two decades, George has guided the travel media group’s editorial strategy to publish stories that encourage readers to explore the world with passion and purpose. As National Geographic Traveler magazine’s editor in chief, George made sustainable tourism, cultural heritage, and community engagement focal points of our travel content in print, online, and on social media. George sees travel storytelling as a way to inspire people to explore the world, develop meaningful connections, and embrace an ethic of sustainability. In 2019, the Society of American Travel Writers recognized Traveler and Natgeotravel.com as the nation's best travel magazine and website.
The author of two books for National Geographic (From Mist and Stone: The History and Lore of Celts and Vikings and Raging Forces: Life on a Violent Planet), George directs the development of award-winning travel content that has extended the Travel brand to new audiences (including more than 55 million followers on social media), strengthened relationships with travel and tourism industry and organizational partners, and advanced the National Geographic mission to explore and protect our planet.
