cru13P.gif Harry Truman slept here. So did Walt Disney, Rita Hayworth, and Ernest Hemingway. They rode the Independence  when she ferried passengers across the Atlantic in the 1950s. Now, completely refurbished, she glides about the Hawaiian archipelago.
cru14P.gif The Independence  dangles many of the lures that hook cruise passengers: fine food, tropical ports of call, postcard-perfect views. But subtler charms beckon to sunshine, shadow, and the chance for renewed acquaintance with one's own soul.
cru15P.gif The Independence  has become a floating school for Hawaiian culture—fattening passengers with island food, enchanting them with island lore. Lessons range from serious history in the shipboard museum to hula lessons on the deck.
