Alan Shapiro

A classical archaeologist and specialist in Greek art, mythology, and religion, Alan Shapiro has lectured and taught at universities all over the world, from Germany and Belgium to Australia, New Zealand, China, and South Africa. Until his retirement in 2015, he was Professor of Classics and Archaeology at Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of books on Greek vase-painting and mythology and has curated exhibitions of Greek art in this country and abroad. His experience in Greece includes two years as a student and two years as Visiting Professor at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.
