Atsuko Iketsu

Born in the old merchant town Osaka and raised in the samurai capital Kamakura, Atsuko “Akko” Iketsu has been fascinated with temples and shrines since childhood. The globe-trotter spent 11 years overseas in Los Angeles, Bangkok, London, and Paris and, upon her return to Japan, volunteered as a docent for the vivid historical exhibits of the Edo-Tokyo Museum. A licensed guide for six years in both English and French, Akko has led walking tours in urban centers as well as along the Kumano Kodo and other ancient pilgrimage routes. When guiding travelers, she loves to share “the real beauty of Japan and Japanese way of thinking and living.”
