Janet Duncan Jones

Archaelogist Janet Duncan Jones has more than 30 years of fieldwork at sites in Italy, Jordan, Greece, Turkey, and elsewhere. She is Presidential Professor of Classics at Bucknell University specializing in classical and Near Eastern archaeology, early urbanism, and environmental history. Janet’s publications focus on ancient technology and cultural landscapes. She has taught about the human impact on ancient environments, including Machu Picchu, Easter Island, the Gangetic Plain, southern Jordan, and the Nile Valley. Whenever possible, Janet teaches courses about her three passions: ancient technology, the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and Alexander the Great.
