Matt Murray

Editor in Chief

Matt Murray is Editor in Chief of The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires, roles he assumed in June 2018. He joined the Journal in April 1994 in its Pittsburgh bureau, and as a reporter covered beats including banking, General Electric Co., food and management. As an editor, his roles have included running the Journal's national editing desk; serving as deputy managing editor overseeing first the U.S. bureaus and corporate coverage, then the foreign bureaus and finance coverage; and serving as Deputy Editor in Chief. Matt is the author of The Father and the Son and was the writer of Strong of Heart, a memoir by former New York City fire commissioner Thomas Von Essen. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism from Northwestern University. He and his wife, Dr. Janine Flory, live in Manhattan and Garrison, N.Y., with their daughter, Chaeyoon.
