#StoriesofHomeChallenge
NOW IT’S
YOUR SHOT
There’s no place like your home. Whether you live in a studio apartment in an urban high-rise, a two-story with a fenced backyard in a suburban subdivision, or someplace in between-even on wheels or on the water, we asked to see your stories of home.
From July 27 - August 3, participants entered images on Instagram using #StoriesofHomeChallenge. Here are the three editor picks, chosen by National Geographic photographer, Celeste Sloman.
I took this photo the day after a birthday party. I was at my parents’ house, documenting them as usual, and I said, “Hey, Dad, play with the balloons a little,” and then I was very amazed to see him playing like a child … Great moment for me and a great memory for my family. The title of this series of shots is “The Party Is Gone.”

Her face illuminates when she thinks about self-love. The mirror takes her heart to her own world, where she’s about to give herself the best-all her favorite attire, great skincare—and also let loose her unchained thoughts and imagination. This very moment unlocks her smile. She looks beautiful.
View on InstagramAt this time of year I have beautiful light in my bedroom. Here you see a wonderful display of light bouncing off my glass nightstand and crystal lamp. Though being housebound during the COVID-19 pandemic was difficult, it forced me to slow down and appreciate my surroundings. I would not have normally been home, but due to the lockdown I noticed this transient gift of light before me.
