Angkor Wat

Photo: Angkor Wat temple
Buddhist monks, shaven-headed and saffron-robed, scale the steps of a temple at northern Cambodia's breathtaking Angkor complex. Capital city of the Khmer empire from the 9th to the 15th century, Angkor is home to dozens of ornate temples that reflect both Hindu and Buddhist themes. Most famous is the enormous Angkor Wat complex, the largest religious structure in the world built to honor the Hindu god Vishnu.
