[Gas Grid]

Utilities in New York draw upon many far-flung resources, and natural gas is no exception. Ancient deposits beneath the Gulf of Mexico provide fuel to much of the eastern seaboard. Gas is piped 1,800 miles (2,896 kilometers) into the New York netherworld where the network of pipes coexists in the cramped space with the other utilities.
