The Story of Three Co-Workers

This is the story of three co-workers who met while working at the same agency.

I collected a month's worth of their data to see what I could learn about their friendship.

This section can be navigated using the up and down arrows on the keyboard.

Lesson 1: The Expected

Location-wise, the coworker's friendship was centered around their workplace.

(The grey marker shows their workplace, each color represents a different person's geolocation trail.)

Lesson 2: The Unexpected

The more I looked at their data, the more I noticed how two of the co-workers seemed to spend more time with each other than with the third.

Look for the overlap between the two colors (each one represents a different person's location trail).

Months later, the coworkers whose data showed they spent the most time together moved in together.

When I suggested that the data had hinted at their closeness, they were dismissive.

(But you should look at the data yourself and decide.)
