Sometimes capturing a little bit of motion or tension in a photograph helps it come to life. This month's collection of my favorite Photo of the Day images has many suspended moments—waves crashing on a tiny sandy island, an elephant crossing a game reserve, and a whale shark gliding through the ocean, to name a few. Our world is a living, breathing, being, with all of its tiny components perpetually in motion.
Janna Dotschkal is the editor of Photo of the Day, a curated look at photography from around National Geographic, including the magazine and our photo community, Your Shot. Liane DiStefano writes the captions and titles.
