PhotographyYour Shot Photos of the Week

Your best photos of the week, November 9, 2018

Each week, our editors choose stunning photos submitted by members of Your Shot, National Geographic's photo community.

This week, the Your Shot community reached a milestone of one million registered users in our history as a community. That’s incredible. Over the course of almost a decade as an online platform, one million photographers came through our doors. If even only for a little bit or to stay, this community has been thriving world-wide through the passion for photography since day one.

We asked the community what brought you to Your Shot in honor of this milestone. Their answers didn’t disappoint. I read stories of friendship, a hunger to learn and improve their craft, and an undeniable love for photography. The reoccurring vein at the core of almost every answer was passion. The Your Shot community is hands down one of the most passionate communities on the internet. That is a biased opinion, but one that I stand by as I sit back and compile my favorite photos from these week that ooze nothing but passion for this medium.

I consistently find myself impressed by the collective hunger the Your Shot community has to grow as story-tellers. The passion to learn is incredibly special, and quite rare during times of division in the world we share together. We all found our way to Your Shot through a passion for photography but what keeps us around is the passion for community.

Photographers enter the doors of Your Shot as strangers and are welcomed to this family no matter the language, gender, skin color or even the camera-type. We are here to support each other every step of the way. Passion is pretty neat in that way. I look forward to what passion I’ll see for next week’s series.

Associate Photo Editor Kristen McNicholas looks at daily uploads from Your Shot, starting each day by sifting thousands of photographs. This series is a selection of her favorites from the past week.
