Maria Fadiman

Conservationist, Educator

Maria Fadiman is a conservationist and professor in the department of geosciences at Florida Atlantic University, and was named a National Geographic Emerging Explorer in 2006. Maria studies ethnobotany—the relationship between people and plants—and has been working in the rainforests of Ecuador for more than 25 years, including projects on oil exploration in the Amazon and organic coffee production in the Galápagos. A seasoned public speaker, Maria loves to share her knowledge of Ecuador’s indigenous plants and their uses in traditional medicine.
