#FriFotos: Do You Want to Know a Secret?

This week’s #FriFotos theme is SECRETS, so we thought we’d show off one of our own: our archives.

This photo shows William C. Bonner, the National Geographic Society’s head archivist, using a ladder to access some of the harder-to-reach items in the stacks. He has been presiding over vintage Autochromes, slides, paintings, and nearly a half million black-and-white prints deep in the climate-controlled bowels of our D.C. headquarters for almost 30 years.

“You don’t work here and have a favorite photo or a favorite artist,” Bonner says. “There’s just too much good stuff.”

Want to see your photo featured on our website or blog? Make it happen by uploading your favorite travel pics (don’t forget to add a caption) to Tag your submissions #travelshot – then look for your photos in one of our My Shot galleries or on the Intelligent Travel blog.

#FriFotos is a weekly themed Twitter chat founded by @EpsteinTravels, @CharlesYap, and @TravelDesigned where travelers share their favorite pics. Search #FriFotos on Twitter to see this week’s submissions or tweet one of your own.
