While Gerhard Bock, a translator from Mount Shasta, California, was visiting the Greek island of Santoríni, he got up early one morning to explore the cliffside town of Thíra. He came across this sweeping view, fortuitously enhanced by a ship steaming across the harbor. Then, as if on cue, rays of sunlight popped out of the clouds, momentarily highlighting the statue and other parts of the scene. Bock took four frames before the ship moved too far out of position and the light changed. The camera was a Canon EOS 10S with a 28-70mm lens at the 28mm setting. He shot at f/16 and 1/125 second on Fuji Sensia 100 film. |
