For the past several decades, we’ve relied on massive, billion-dollar satellites to collect data. Aerospace company Spire is revolutionizing the industry with their CubeSat satellite design. Each device is about the size of a shoe box and can collect and transmit weather data 10,000 times a day—six times more frequently than older models. Spire’s satellites could be key to finally reining in the stubbornly unpredictable world of weather forecasting, giving us a better idea of when to pack an umbrella and even warning the world’s most vulnerable populations of an impending natural disaster.
