Each of the communities participating in Partners in Preservation will host a special open house event where you can learn more about their restoration project and even cast a special in-person vote to show your support. At the end of the campaign, the community that receives the most in-person votes during their open house event will receive a special $50,000 grant.

This open house will celebrate United Nations Day in honor of the immigrant and refugee women who started businesses here, such as Rose Marie with her floral shop. Considering the event’s proximity to Halloween, it will begin with a matinee of “Little Shop of Horrors” and a concession stand. The showing will be followed by a VIP, behind-the-curtain cast party (with costumes!). The event will also have antique vehicles, a life-size figure of Audrey II, food, drink, and swag.

Thanks to Judge Nicholas Stallworth’s visionary “folly” in 1903, the museum is privileged to celebrate Stallworth’s Folly Day on October 3, applauding the historical significance of Monroe County’s Old Courthouse. Hosted at the museum, events will begin with a live radio broadcast and continue with Monroe County students visiting the site, live music, historical presentations, and barbeque lunch plates for sale. This open house event will welcome guests into the main entrance of College Hall to see the college’s vision for upgrades and renovations through conceptual renderings. Historical documents and artifacts will be on display that relate to the suffrage movement and the rich history of Lake Erie College and the surrounding community. The event will include refreshments and a cupcake and candy bar reminiscent of the 1920s.

OPEN HOUSE COMPLETE

For over 50 years, Denver’s first female African American doctor, Justina L. Ford, treated patients in her home. Known by the community as the “Baby Doctor,” she delivered 7,000 babies and treated countless others. Today, her home serves as the Black American West Museum and Heritage Center, which celebrates the influence African Americans had on western expansion. The open house will feature tours of the museum, performances (including a special performance from The Spirituals Project), food trucks, and historical interpreters.

DWC’s open house event will take place at MADE by DWC, the organization’s social enterprise and café, where a woman with lived experience will share her personal story. Staff will provide tours of the facility, and there will be a special shopping event with a discount for attendees where you can browse items from DWC’s Home and Gift Collection, including candles, journals, soaps, and more. All items are created by women participating in the Center’s transitional employment program.
