"This is in the isolation ward in the Lacor hospital. I
would say this boy is about ten. The doctor is feeling his
stomach, because abdominal pains, chest pains,
bleedingthese are the symptoms of Ebola. And how
the stomach is behaving is an indication of how well the
patient is, or what chance of recovery there is.
"When I went into the hospital, I was masked and
everything. I was allowed to bring in two cameras and
whatever film I put into each one.
"I couldn't change the film, so as I was doing the rounds, I
was very conscious that I didn't want to shoot all my film
and then find at the end, or halfway through, something
incredible is happening."

Shoptalk "There is a certain Zen to this. If you know you've got two
exposures left in your camera, it does concentrate the mind.
You don't just rattle off images for the sake of ityou
really think about it."
