Moab's Greatest Ride

Shidan Towfiq plunges into the Green River for an early-morning swim before tackling Day 2's 30 miles (48 kilometers).

"This is just outside of our campsite, Hardscrabble 2. We only brought bivouacs, no tents, so we were sleeping outside. As soon as it got light, we woke up.

"It was just warming up and Shidan decided to jump in. I didn't have quite the motivation. The river took him pretty fast, but he's a strong swimmer."
