The Photographers and Their Critics

If you're an amateur photographer, you probably have a handful of pictures that appear, in your eyes at least, to have been taken by a pro. Whether a product of careful composition or just plain luck, these images stand out in your collection as proof of your vision and photographic sense—perhaps even as a sign that you've chosen the wrong career. But who are you to judge?

For the ultimate reality check, we asked Adventure's photo editors to give amateurs some feedback on their shots. In our first photo critique, a new online feature in which our photo department will comment upon pictures submitted by readers, we recruited volunteers from our own staff. Here are their favorite travel photos they selected for review.

How to submit your own photo:
Please send only one 5x7 image or smaller, per person, for critique. If you would like the photo returned, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope. We are not responsible for any lost or stolen pictures. Images we are seeking for photo critiques include landscape, portrait or action shots of the type you would find in Adventure.

Digital images should be saved at 72 dpi, RGB, and sent to adventure@ngs.org. Please include "Reader Photo Critique" in the subject line of your e-mail.
