Galápagos animals seem utterly indifferent to the presence of humans, whether in the wild or here at the Charles Darwin Research Station, and there's perhaps no better place on Earth to ponder what it means to be human, to reconsider our relationship with animals, to assess how well we're doing as stewards of our planet, and to decide whether we should even think of ourselves as stewards at all. It's a wonderful place for deep thoughts. Or you can just regress to think shallow things, like how rad it is that E.T. was modeled after a Galápagos tortoise.
