Peformance Apparel (From Top)
Salomon Raid LS Zip Tech-T Seamless is more than an aesthetic. The lack of stitching makes Salomon's long-sleeve Raid ($75; www.salomonsports.com) one of the most comfortable trail shirts you can sweat in. Imagine: no rubbing or chaffing and top-shelf performance fit and fabrics to boot. Patagonia LongHaul Runners You don't have to wear short shorts to run long distances. You can be just as comfortable covered by Patagonia's Long Haul Runners (men's and women's, $42; www.patagonia.com), which are made of soft recycled polyester, have a poly liner, and sport a seven-inch (eighteen-centimeter) inseam. Puma AT SS Poly Tee Blustery spring days don't always call for long sleeves. As things warm up, Puma's slightly heavier tech tee ($32; www.puma.com) provides some insulation but dries fast enough to keep you from becoming soggy and chilled. Pearl Izumi Fly Tank The MicroSensor polyester of Pearl Izumi's wafer-thin, formfitting Fly tank (men's and women's, $35; www.pearlizumi.com) wicks away sweat and dries fast, making it versatile enough to be either a base layer on a cool day or an outer layer on a warm one. Hind Spare-O Jacket As much as we love the new wave of ultralight running jackets, some breathe about as well as a Ziploc baggie. Hind's Spare-O ($50; www.hind.com) is the antidote. A thin poly shell covers the huge mesh panel to the rear, vented by a port across the entire back—the slightest movement channels air where it's needed. Pearl Izumi Infinity Long Short Runners lag at least ten years behind the NBA, but looser, longer shorts are finally as common on the track as on the courts. Like the Patagonias, Pearl's Infinity Long Short ($38; www.pearlizumi.com) has a respectful seven inches (eighteen centimeters) between crotch and hem—but it also sports innovative perforated side panels that keep you cooler than Kobe at the line.
