Alive Escape Route Expedition Photo Gallery Experience the retracing of the Alive escape trek, led by Ricardo Peña, with expedition photos from Contributing Editor James Vlahos.
Before retracing the trek, expedition leader Ricardo Peña and I spent nearly a week in Montevideo, Uruguay, interviewing the survivors. This is one of them, Eduardo Strauch, in front of Uruguayan Air Force Fairchild number 572, which is virtually identical to their plane that crashed in 1972. Strauch had never seen it before and going inside was very emotional for him. —Contributing Editor James Vlahos
