On safari in South Africa's Kruger National Park, we encountered this stubborn elephant along the road. Before we knew what was happening, we were surrounded by a herd of nine elephants. They kept us trapped—one in front, another behind—for hours.  As we inched forward to try and pass, the adolescent males would aggressively flair their ears and trumpet in a testament of their youthful strength. Defeated, we pulled to the side of the road and waited. Just before sunset, the elephants tired of toying with us and moved on to find more satisfying entertainment.
