Photographer Aaron Huey shares a look inside Rory Stewart's efforts to save the Old City of Kabul from destruction and remind a nation of its former glory.
Explorer, scholar, and diplomat Rory Stewart walks down the road to Istalif, a town renowned for its pottery and a great beneficiary of his Turquoise Mountain Foundation (TMF). Just before this shot was taken, Stewart helped push a car filled with locals up this hill.
Before starting the foundation Stewart walked a 600-mile [966-kilometer] walk alone across Afghanistan in 2002—which he wrote about in The Places in Between. He also served as the deputy governor of a province in southern Iraq. —Photographer Aaron Huey
