Unlike the surface of a frozen lake or the cubes dispensed by your freezer, its shapes are endless and varied, from bulging and organic to thin and fragile like blown glass. Ice climbers like Jared [pictured] pick their way up fangs, arêtes, curtains, pillars, all the while calculating the inevitable melt and collapse that will come on another day."
