Inter-tidal life on the California coast can keep you entertained for hours, especially when you're gathering blue mussels to make an evening feast. On our hunt we came across this red sun star, which surprisingly had a soft tender skin. After we picked it up and set it back down again, it scurried away in a big hurry.

Dan and Jeff were so excited about gathering mussels that they were paying no mind to me. During a surf trip you can't help but revert back to being kids—diving in the water, gathering food or looking at cool marine life such as this red sun star.
