Vast geography and regional loyalties conspire against a unifying vision of who we Canadians are. For 18 months and 50,000 miles (80,465 kilometers) in 1993-1994, I explored the lives and work of people in rural Canada. On a tight budget I traveled and lived in a camper. Having met thousands of rural Canadians, I can say that most of them make sacrifices for living against a backdrop of water, mountains, forest, or prairie. They have more in common than they realize. |
