Two brothers pose with a cat in Wumu Village, in Yunnan Province, China. In rural parts of the country like this one, marriage and raising children are widely held societal expectations. But because these men were born into difficult economic circumstances, neither married. Instead, they’ve spent their lives caring for each other. “As I spent time with them, I was moved by the quiet companionship they shared,” photographer Tommy Jiang tells National Geographic.
