Seeking out the aurora borealis can lead to some sleepless nights, as Your Shot member Gheorghe Popa can attest. Popa traveled to Iceland in October 2015—prime viewing time for the northern lights—and waited until he got the opportunity to make this image. “I really wanted to see the aurora borealis … After two nights without sleep, eventually I was lucky to take a photograph of Jökulsárlón lagoon and the aurora borealis,” Popa writes. “It was perfect. What could be nicer than pieces of ice seen in the northern lights?”
