Afghanistan has become a war-scarred land of near-forgotten people with nowhere to run. For six weeks in fall 1996 I documented the Taliban, the Islamic fundamentalist militia, as they took over Kabul, the capital. I saw them impose ShariaMuslim lawand how it affected the lives of women. On that first trip and on later visits I saw how ethnic divisions perpetuate the fighting that permeates daily life. I plan to continue concentrating on Afghanistans people, from every side of the conflict. ![]()
