Deal of the Week: Azores Voluntourism Sea Safari

Photograph courtesy of Biosphere Expeditions

Attention animal lovers: Biosphere Expeditions has a few spots left on its “creatures of the deep” Azores expedition. A specialist in wildlife conservation trips, the UK-based nonprofit will send you on a ten-day whale-, dolphin-, and loggerhead-watching binge for about $1,300—meals and accommodations included. Bed down in a guesthouse on the island of Faial and spend your days aboard a small research vessel with your fellow voluntourists, scanning the horizon for spouting humpbacks and bottlenose dolphins. Everything you see, photograph, and jot down will help scientists to better understand the curious ways of these ancient animals.

THE CATCH: The trip starts April 4 (that’s right, a week from Saturday) and your credit card will be charged in British pounds (it’s 890 GBP), so the lower the dollar, the less you save.
