Kayaker Aleksander Doba
2015 People's Choice Adventurer of the Year
On October 5, 2013, then 67-year-old Aleksander Doba of Poland began his kayaking expedition across the Atlantic. He paddled the final stroke of his 7,716-mile voyage, beaching his kayak OLO, on the sands of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, in April 2014. Storms and equipment failure threw Doba off course, tacking an additional 1,300 miles and two months onto a journey that already would have broken the record for the longest ever solo kayaking voyage.
