Hope Ryden

Hope Ryden is a photographer, filmmaker, and author of 25 books, all of which are illustrated with her photographs and some of which have been translated into German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, and Russian.

Although she has traveled widely and photographed animals in Africa, Asia, South and Central America, and Australia, she is especially noted for her nature books about North American wild animals: mustangs, coyotes, beavers, bobcats, bald eagles, and Key deer.

To write and illustrate her award-winning books, Ryden spends years in the field studying her subjects firsthand. As a result, she has captured and described never-before-seen animal behaviors.

Her photographs with accompanying text have appeared in National Geographic, Audubon, Smithsonian, Defenders of Wildlife, the New York Times Magazine, and more.

Ryden has also received the Joseph Wood Krutch Award given to individuals who have made a "significant contribution toward the improvement of life and environment on the planet."
