Okavango Eternal

Through Okavango Eternal, work is underway to help protect the source waters of this one-of-a-kind region, and support tourism that benefits local communities. Glide through the waterways of Botswana's Okavango Delta and come face to face with its wildlife in this immersive 360 experience.

THE BRIEF

Under the mantel of ‘Okavango Eternal’, the strategic partnership between De Beers & National Geographic continues to address one of the most critical conservation challenges in Africa: the Okavango Delta. In this latest chapter of the partnership, ‘Visiting the Delta’ National Geographic aims to raise awareness of the wonder and importance of the Okavango Delta, and to build excitement amongst global audiences around the prospect of visiting it for themselves.

THE SOLUTION

Through the creation of an immersive 360 video, National Geographic transported global audiences to the Delta for a taste of the experience, shining a light on the importance of travelling responsibly and the impact of tourism on the local community. Through organic and targeted dark social posts, audiences were driven to both the YouTube 360 upload, as well as the content hub with supporting photography and written content from local Batswana photojournalist Talefang Charles who shared his experience of how best to visit the Delta and what can be done to support the local community.
