African American historic landmarks have long been forgotten, neglected, and left in the dark. Spaces that have curated Black achievement, activism, and artistry traditionally have not received the same funding as other historic landmarks. Now, these historic spaces will receive support as the National Trust for Historic Preservation has created a $50 million fund to preserve African American cultural landmarks.
The African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, the largest effort of its kind to preserve African American historic sites, announced today that it will invest in 40 projects that amplify Black history and culture.
