Mechanical carders untangle and align raw magenta wool fibers in a factory in Millbury, Massachusetts. Christopher Payne has explored the ins and outs of how everyday things are made in his photography for almost 20 years. The image is part of his latest collection, Made in America: The Industrial Photography, which is on view at Cooper Hewitt in New York City through September 27th.
