Two women pick mexericas, or tangerines, from a tree in the village of Noiva do Cordeiro in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The rural community in southeast Brazil consists of about 350 people, and women have helped shape it for more than two centuries. It is common for both men and women in the village to participate in manual labor, and harvesting mexericas helps bring in income for the residents.
