A smiling young rider holds tightly to a sheep during the Mutton Bustin’ competition at the 67th annual Roy LeBlanc Invitational Rodeo in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Held each August, the rodeo is one of the longest-running celebrations of Black rodeo culture in the United States. Mutton bustin' events function as the gateway to the rodeo for children, ensuring that the horsemanship and customs of Black cowboys are successfully passed down to the next generation.
